Lutein and zeaxanthin are responsible for the orange-yellow colour of many plants - fruits, vegetables, flowers. However, in the human body they fulfil two important functions. First, they are antioxidants (antioxidants) that neutralise free radicals. Thus they prevent many chronic diseases. They are of particular importance for the smooth functioning of the visual organ. Among other things, they protect the sensitive capillaries of the retina. Secondly, they are a yellow filter that absorbs ultraviolet (UV) radiation harmful to the eye.
